WG4-led Multi-WG Capstone Uncertainty Demonstration Workshop
Apply for the Capstone Uncertainty Demonstration Workshop before the 20th of November 2026
Notification of selection results: by 30 November 2026
Workshop Objectives:
1) To present methods and tools for uncertainty calculation and propagation across topics relevant to all PANGEOS Working Groups, including:
- Methods for propagating uncertainties for field spectral sensors, from spectroradiometer calibration (ASD, SVC and Piccolo) and reflectance ground based measurements to derived vegetation indices, including sensor intercomparison. (Laura Mihai and Andreas Hüni)
- Methods for propagating uncertainties from field calibration and UAV measurements (e.g., Altum and REMX cameras) to derived vegetation indices. (Alvaro Sanchez)
- Methods for uncertainty quantification and propagation in biodiversity-related indicators and products. (Tiziana Koch and Christian Rossi)
- Methods for propagating uncertainties in ARTMO and SCOPE modelling and retrieval workflows. (Dessislava Ganeva, Jochem Verrelst, Egor Prikaziuk)
- Methods for uncertainty propagation in CHIME data processing and derived products. (Carmen Meiller)
- Methods for uncertainty calculation and propagation in TWSI estimation. (Mike Werfeli)
- Presentation of a graphical user interface (GUI) for TIR sensor calibration. (Moritz Nelle)
- Methods for uncertainty quantification and propagation in SIF retrievals. (TBA)
The workshop prioritises methodological approaches and practical tools over individual empirical results.
2) To encourage the participation and future contributions of Young Researchers and Innovators proactively from the start, while safeguarding gender balance and enhancing age diversity in the PANGEOS COST Action.
Description:
In line with the objectives outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of PANGEOS COST Action CA22136, this two-day workshop will provide participants with an overview of practical methods and best practices for uncertainty quantification and propagation across different Earth Observation applications. Lecturers will present selected methodological approaches, practical applications and examples relevant to the activities of WG1, WG2, WG3 and WG4.
The workshop aims to introduce practical methods and tools for uncertainty propagation that participants can apply in their own research and Earth Observation applications.
